If it’s been a while, you may only know of traditional braces as the tried-and-true way of fixing misalignment. However, a new kid is on the block, and it is Invisalign! These clear aligners are discreet and removable, so they fit seamlessly into your lifestyle. But are they just as effective as good ol’ braces? Continue reading to learn how Invisalign can address many common bite problems.

Can Invisalign Correct Bite Problems?

To make a long story short, it can! Clear aligners have been helping many people correct malocclusions, such as:

  • Underbites: When your lower set of teeth sits in front of the upper ones, it can negatively affect your confidence, oral health, and how you talk. Invisalign can be used with orthodontic accessories to correct this issue. You may need to wear some rubber bands on the trays to help align your bite!
  • Overbites: If your upper teeth sit too far over your lower ones, then it can also bring some trouble. You may have difficulty enunciating, but clear aligners have been a good solution for many patients! Especially if you have a mild to moderate case, you can get a healthier bite and avoid the metal look in your mouth.
  • Open Bites: If your upper and lower teeth don’t sit together evenly when you bite down, then you may have an open bite. It may come as no surprise that Invisalign can help give you the same results you would have with traditional braces if your case is on the mild end.
  • Crossbites: This bite issue is when the upper teeth fit “inside” the lower set of teeth, causing the lower jaw to shift to one side. It can make it difficult to chew properly with this malocclusion. It’s important to know that this issue can get worse as you get older, so seeking help with Invisalign as soon as possible is important.

How Can I Get Invisalign?

If you have any of these orthodontic issues and crowding or gaps in your teeth, then a great way to see if you’re a good candidate for these clear aligners is with a consultation. Your orthodontist will look at your bite and some X-rays to see if this treatment will be beneficial for you. Mild to moderate cases of misalignment are more likely to get the green light, and if you do, then your treatment plan will get created!

If you do have severe malocclusion, then don’t feel too down if you can’t get Invisalign right away. In some cases, traditional braces will be better for you at the start, but then you can talk to your orthodontist about switching to clear aligners as it progresses. In the end, you will have a straighter smile and healthier bite!
